Synopsis

How do you steal a book that doesn’t exist?

When Izola travels to Jarlsbeck bearing news of her ex-husband’s death, she discovers that her daughter, Page, has made dangerous friends. Obsessed with finding a mythical book whose origins are clouded in mystery, Page is embroiled in a magical heist. To steal the book out from under the noses of a secret society of librarians, she’ll have to assemble a team of experts: a sarcastic dwarven historian, a devious summoner, and of course… a book witch—her mother.

But working together will test the team’s loyalties. Page was always a daddy’s girl, and her rebellious spirit has pushed her away from Izola. Worst of all, Page is keeping a secret that just might get the whole team killed.

On the eve of Reinveldt’s post-war election, the world’s fate teeters on the brink, and the sinister Thule Society puts forth a candidate. Nothing is beneath the Thule in their quest to control the fabled book: intimidation, blackmail, assassination.

Can mother and daughter make peace in time to save a nation from itself? And can the team hold it together long enough to steal the legendary book, or will old scars and secret agendas tear them apart?

Enjoy book one now.

Smashwords

The collection begins with a biopunk piece “Green Ground Zero”, where sentient algae has overtaken the world and mutated humans into manipulated swamp monster zombie workers. A rebel named Nap risks his life for a taste of freedom, setting the tone for the rest of the collection.

“Skeleton Soulmate” is the only optimistic romance story in this collection. It tells the dark fantasy meeting of a numb ex-tattoo artist hermit who can only see human beings as walking skeletons, and a carefree wandering man-child who views himself and everyone else as babies.

Set on a central Florida small-town strawberry farm “Zombalibot” is an apocalyptic sci-fi story taking place after Grady, an old strawberry farmer and Santiago, the noble Mexican farm manager, witness a UFO crash on the farm.

The final tale in this collection is “Midnight Ascent”. In a tourist town’s late-night blizzard, this dark comedy flirts with magic realism as Shin, an orphaned outcast, seeks help from a drunk old man to find and enter the portal rumored to exist at the peak of the nearby mountain.

The other nine stories see pregnant call girls fighting back against giant sewer monsters, homeless Vietnam veterans taking unexpected psychedelic trips back in time, and other strange stories that explore the dirty avenues of raw realities and ideal imagination.

A book rare in its texture, in a diction in consonance with the contemporary, capturing moments! Condensed images catapulting meaning, decked with the right photos that cement and sediment meanings, evocative to the core! Afterall, isn’t that what poetry is all about?

Opening pores, inviting the reader in, allowing him to weave out webs in its interstices! Here is the much-needed poetry of the times.

In an age of selective seeing, listening straddling the tight ropes of time, these emotive, tangible words, images and spaces keep our imagination astir, through the minimal to the maximal. Words slide and fall into the reader psyche causing ripples, ultimately to settle down like pebbles in the lake with an assurance and a calm so rare.
